about-howie-junkie

Well howdy there friend!

My name is Howie Junkie, and I’m known as the “How-to Junkie.” Why? As much as I would like to consider myself the world’s most famous junkie, my only drug is learning how things work…but you can simply call me Howie. 🙂

I suppose this is the part where I share a little about my background and how I came to start the How-To Junkie.

Well, I have always had a love for self-help and personal development. The very idea of being able to learn anything has always fascinated me.

Take a trip down memory lane…

Back when I was in school, while everybody else was reading classical literature (or whatever young adult series that were trending at that time), I was considered the weirdo reading advanced self-help books, before self-help was even a thing other than a stigma with there something wrong with you for even getting into self-help in the first place.

I started out reading (accidentally) The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by the late Stephen Covey when I was 12, and from there my quest and desire for practical knowledge sprouted.

Part of the reason was because I was always struggling more than my other classmates. I was a studious student nonetheless, yet wasn’t always getting the best of grades after putting in the most amount of work. As a testament of that, during my summers, studying was all I did without ever socializing nor leaving the house, by teaching myself the subjects for my upcoming classes before they even began.

I didn’t know it at the time until I was high school, but I became diagnosed as dyslexic, which made learning the tradition route in a classroom very difficult. Plus, being a very kinesthetic person, the only way I could learn was by doing, which needed things to be demonstrative and exemplary as possible broken down into applicable steps, as another reason why I fell in love with “how-tos.”

Now fast forward to the present…

First off, I am not a guru. I’m just a normal person who is a firm believer in never-ending improvement and living life to the fullest, who happens to learn things differently in a more pragmatic fashion.

I devour everything how-to and spill it out, simplified and explained in a way how someone like me who struggles with learning would understand it, because “the worst student makes the best teacher.”

Like Albert Einstein once said: “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t know it well enough.”

If I could help other folks like myself, that would be great. And that’s who the How-To Junkie is for and all about.
